Derek Hollingdale won the regional BMW Golf Cup International 2009 final recently to qualify for the national final at Turnberry. He did not anticipate doing well, but the Ayrshire links clearly suited him for he won and so qualified for the World final in South Africa. We all wish him luck there! |

In recent years the BMW Golf Cup International has developed into one of the most successful amateur golf tournaments in the world. Last year, 50 nations competed in the World Final and over 100,000 competitors participated worldwide. The World Final will be played in March 2010, there is a singles and international team competition.
The UK tournament consists of seven Regional Finals and a National Final at Turnberry playing on the famous Ailsa Course. Regional Finals are played at some of the finest UK venues and play is split into handicap categories to cater for all levels of golfer.
The Final was played on Friday 18th September - Derek scored 34 points to win the 0-12 category and was fortunate enough to birdie the 18th (reminiscent of Tom Watson on the last at the Open) and had the honour of making the winning speech on behalf of all 260 guests.
He commented "It was the most amazing experience which I was able to share with Tracy. Turnberry is one of the most fabulous golf venues in the world made all that bit more special because of the Open being played there this year".
