Is your course etiquette in good shape?
How about your playing partners?
The Captain, Secretary and Committee have received sufficient reports in recent weeks to suggest that some focus is required on etiquette and speed of play around the course. Speed of play is an issue with high numbers of members wanting to play the course whilst it is in such excellent shape.
Therefore the Committee members are on a mission! A mission to improve the etiquette and get it back to where it was in days gone by. For starters......
- Our starter Bob will be seen more on his "Course Marshall" Buggy to find those gaps and less on the first tee to greet you. Please treat him with utmost respect!
- You will see some humorous yet topical posters around the clubhouse which remind us all of some of the basics.
- If a group are playing faster than you, please play them through - its not a slight on your groups abilities but it is good, basic course etiquette and helps the flow of the course.
- A faster group will always move through the field if given the opportunity - "there's nowhere to go" is not a valid reason to not play a faster group through.
- If you see a member or visitor whose dress code doesn't meet our standards, please politely mention it to them.
- We challenge you to take the "Etiquette Test" by following the link attached above to see if you are really "up to scratch". They seem basic but you may recognize a playing partner or two with some of the questions! Have a go at it and see if you can pass the test and receive your certificate from Lee Westwood who has endorsed the campaign. There's one trick question in there - see if you can spot it.
For those who don't meet the standards on the course or in the clubhouse we intend to “throw the book at you!". Tongue in it cheek maybe but we do have a supply of books in the office entitled "Etiquette - The Golfers Guide". Anyone falling short of etiquette standards will be the proud recipient of this amusing yet educational booklet! If you feel someone is deserving please state your case to the Secretary!!!
Remember - its a bit of fun with a serious message!!
Good luck with your test and thank you in anticipation of your efforts.
